File Management: When to save files to OneDrive or Scotch Central (SharePoint)?
A good way to think about OneDrive storage is that it's for "My files" while Scotch Central (SharePoint) is where we store "Our files".
ONEDRIVE
SCOTCH CENTRAL [SHAREPOINT]
-
OneDrive files are private unless shared with others. That means every file you upload, create, or sync will by default only be viewable by you.
- A file or folder can be shared with others in an organisation (Scotch) or with people outside our organisation (e.g., parents).
- Once a file or folder is shared, it is viewable only by the file owner and whoever they shared it with.
- When files are stored in Scotch Central (SharePoint), they are available to anyone who has permission to access the SharePoint folder.
- Real-time collaboration on files
- Files cannot be 'shared' with people outside the Scotch organisation.
- You can attach a file to an email if you need to share it with an external organisation or copy it to your OneDrive and then share; this will ensure the file located in Scotch Central is not compromised by external parties.
