OneDrive: Syncing and Trouble Shooting [MacBook]
SYNCING ISSUES
If the OneDrive icon has disappeared, type in the spotlight search ‘OneDrive’ and reopen the OneDrive app.
If it doesn’t appear, you may need to reinstall the app via self-service; you will need to sign in again using your school email address and password.
You will need to update the password for the app when you change your Scotch SSO Password
If the OneDrive icon has an ‘x’ on it, there is a syncing issue with one or more files or folders.
If a folder name contains invalid characters, then all the files within that folder will not sync. Rename the folder first, and the files will then synchronise.
- invalid characters include: “ * : < > ? / \ |. and spaces before and after file names
TROUBLE SHOOTING
If you are experiencing problems with OneDrive or SharePoint on your MacBook, check the following:
-
Has the OneDrive icon in the menu bar disappeared?
- If this drops off and you are working on files locally (in Finder), changes won’t synchronize to the cloud location.
- If the file is saved to Scotch Central, it won’t be available for others in the group.
- Check file and folder names don't contain invalid characters – avoid using special characters and putting spaces at the beginning/end of the file name
- When working in Finder, files can take some time to sync to the cloud; if they don’t appear immediately, give it some time.
- When searching for files, go to OneDrive or SharePoint online; all files will appear in the search. If you search in Finder, only files that are locally stored in your OneDrive folder will appear.
- When syncing SharePoint to Finder for the first time, it can take some time due to the substantial number of files.
