How do I save a copy of my class/staff notebooks?
If you're leaving Scotch, and want to keep your OneNote notebooks, you will need to save a copy before your Scotch account is deactivated.
Unfortunately, Microsoft no longer allows users to export or save entire notebooks directly from school/work accounts, but you can still manually copy or export your content using the OneNote desktop app.
To do this, you will need a personal Microsoft account with OneDrive. This allows you to copy content into a personal notebook that you’ll still have access to after you leave.
Staff and students can access their previous years' class notebooks by going back into their class team through the Teams app (old teams are not deleted for this reason). However, this only works if you have a Scotch account (current staff or student).
How to copy your notebooks to a personal account
Step 1: Open the OneNote Desktop App
You’re signed in with your school account already, but you will need to connect your personal OneDrive account to the OneNote app.
To do this follow these steps:
- Click on your profile icon (bottom left corner)
- Select [+] to add a connected service
- Then select OneDrive personal or your new school/work account (if you have one)

Step 2: Create new notebook in your personal account
In OneNote Desktop App, make sure you have openned the Class/Staff Notebooks you want to copy. (you can access old class notebook by clicking on the [ADD NOTEBOOK] button and search via recent or go into teams.
Open or create a new personal notebook under your personal account (e.g. "My School Notes").
- Click on [Add notebook] - bottom left

- Select New (+)
- Select location: OneDrive Personal

Step 3: Copy or Move Content
- In the Class Notebook, right-click on a page, section, or section group (multiple sections).
- Select "Move* or "Copy".
- Choose Your Personal Notebook as the Destination
- Click Copy.
✅ TIP: You can move section groups to move multiple sections at once — a big time-saver!
❌ DO NOT USE "Move" with Staff Notebooks: If you are copying from a shared Staff Notebook, always use "Copy" — never "Move", as this will remove content for other staff members.
Step 4: Repeat as Needed
Work your way through any other content you want to save.
Note: To access your personal notebooks on a new device, you will need to sign into your personal OneDrive account in the browser, and your notebooks will be saved there.
